Prevent Burnout
Burnout is getting more and more common - as you try to stay on the treadmill of life by overworking and neglecting your health and well-being for extensive periods of time. Here are a few tips to help:
Take up a hobby or do something that allows your mind to focus on something other than work. Switching off completely from work is essential to prevent burnout.
You schedule out work meetings right? - but do you schedule out your downtime or breaks? Scheduling out time for breaks and time away from your desk/phone and work things is another way to help you slow down, take a deep breath, and relax. When you go back to your work you will be amazed at how much more productive you are.
If you work in the same place where you live - set yourself an "end of work" time every day and stick to it. It is so easy to fall into a habit of "... I will just finish this off..." It takes a bit of discipline to do this one - but it is so important to help the burnout and to stop you from becoming a workaholic.
Sleep - getting a good night's sleep is essential to allow you to function. When you have a rubbish night's sleep, you will find it hard to concentrate, make mistakes and probably make you grumpy! So, ensure you get your full quota of sleep. Switching your notifications off on your phone after a certain time will help you start settling down for the night. A lot of mobile devices have different modes such as "sleep mode" which you can set up a schedule for to help you remember.
Exercise and fresh air - it is so easy to sit at your desk all day when you are busy. Try and get into the habit of taking a walk outside - or at least moving away from your desk for at least 15 minutes. Taking up regular exercise helps you empty your mind and make you feel better after.
So, there you have it - I hope you found this tips useful.
Another way to help with burnout is to make sure that you are using your time wisely - don't get bogged down with tasks that you don't need to and focus on the things you enjoy doing.
